Dear Christina,
When I heard you had breast cancer I wanted to cry for you, but I prayed for your life to be spared. Now hearing that you had a double mastectomy, God truly answer my prayer for you. I’m sorry you had to submit to such a life saving measure, but you are alive because of it. If any woman can take anything away from this, your wisdom, strength, and beautiful humor will save a life. I wish you all the best and look forward to many years ahead of your wonderful work.

August 19, 08 • 5:51 pmHi Christina,
I am a 40 year old survivor of breast cancer. My first diagnosis was 10 years ago when I was 29, and my last one in October when I was 39. I also tested positive for the BRCA1 gene. I did not have a mastectomy, but I did have a full hystorectomy and so did my mother. They found a little mass in my fallopian tubes but it was not yet cancer, but they did find it in my mom. I was not sure if your doctor reccomended for you to do the same or not. My doctor said that she suggests any women after having a child should probably have this surgery. I am so glad to hear you have such a great attitude. That is what has made the last ten years of my life so great. I am happy to take a breath every morning. Take care and here is to a happy and stress free life.

August 19, 08 • 6:35 pmI am dealing with breast cancer as well. I am now 37. I was diagnosed when I was 34. I, like you, chose to do the double mastectomy. The left side was radical….the right preventative. It is an emotional roller coaster. I had 2 rounds of chemotherapy, extensive radiation therapy, along with a double mastectomy, and a hysterectomy. My doctors told me when I was diagnosed that they were going to hit me hard because of my age. They weren’t lying. I was very sick for 2 years. I now am feeling much better…and have had a couple of good tests. I don’t regret ever having the double mastectomy…I decided that if I could stop another round of chemo by doing the surgery..then it would be worth it. They didn’t even want me to have reconstruction surgery…so I didn’t. I have dealt with the it…and try to live every day to the fullest. This diagnosis and treatment has changed my life..and my families life (I have a 9 year old daughter.)…We now take nothing for granted…and I love living. I love to laugh…so we make sure that we do that every day. I didn’t get to see your interview…but I am looking forward to watching your cancer special. Try to stay positive…and you are right …it is ok to cry.
I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. You are a great person and deserve to have a long and beautiful life and I know that you will.
